About
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) of Prince George’s County, Maryland (PG ARES) is an organization of licensed Amateur Radio Service operators who provide communications support to served agencies for emergencies and public service events in our community. Our members plan, prepare, and train together to effectively maintain communications networks in adverse conditions, especially to support our network of amateur radio stations located in area hospitals as part of the PG ARES Hospital Coalition.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is part of the field organization of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national membership association for Amateur Radio operators. The ARRL is a not-for-profit organization that promotes interest in Amateur Radio communication and experimentation, establishment of Amateur Radio networks to provide electronic communications in the event of disasters or other emergencies, furtherance of the public welfare, advancement of the radio art, and education in the field of electronic communication.
